Unlimited Artistic - Art for Everyone

The platform Unlimited Artistic, launched in 2023, provides a stage for sighted, visually impaired, and blind artists, with a strong focus on collaboration and inclusion. This project, part of muZIEum, encourages artistic expression by connecting blind and visually impaired artists with sighted artists who work with the senses.

About the project

The goal of the project is to show that everyone, regardless of limitations or background, can participate in and enjoy art and culture. The program includes accessible exhibitions and events, where experiencing art is more than just seeing—art is also experienced through touching, smelling, hearing, and imagining.

Additionally, the project explores and supports the question: how can museums ensure that people with visual impairments can fully enjoy art and objects?

muSEEum, an experience museum about seeing and not seeing, contributes to an inclusive society where diversity is embraced, and everyone can participate. This fosters an environment where all talents can thrive and increases employment opportunities for blind and visually impaired people, both within and outside muSEEum.

Realized projects

  • Marleen de Man: Sculptor Marleen de Man, who is visually impaired, created sculptures around the themes of vision and love. These sculptures were both displayed and accessible for touch at muZIEum.
  • George Kabel: George, who became blind due to Usher syndrome, explored the changes in non-verbal street contact and the impact on his perception after losing his sight in the photo series 'the CONTACT', created in collaboration with photographer dré didderiëns.
  • Judy van Meteren: Judy wondered how to create art that is accessible to everyone, regardless of visual ability. She created an exhibition featuring entirely white paintings, shifting the focus to the tactile aspects of art.
  • Larissa Esvelt: During Kunstnacht 2023, artist Larissa Esvelt made her work accessible to blind and visually impaired people. Additionally, sighted visitors were able to experience what it's like to see art with limited vision via augmented reality. The works were showcased at Atelier RUIS, with the evening guided by muZIEum’s guides.
  • Marina Marinkovic: Marina created a portrait series of patients who demonstrate resilience and optimism after eye surgery. For this series, she reversed roles and visited the patients in their own environments.

Collaborating partners

An essential part of the platform is the collaboration with Stichting Kubes, a collective of about 50 blind and visually impaired artists. This partnership enhances the inclusive programming and ensures a realistic and immersive experience of sensory art. Additionally, we collaborate with regional and national partners such as CODA, Erfgoed Gelderland, Theatergroep De Horde, RUIS, Wintertuin, Stichting Hubert, NEMO, and many more.
