The exhibition "Oog in Oog" opens at muSEEum

On Thursday, June 13, 2024, the exhibition *‘Oog in Oog’* will open at muSEEum! This exhibition features a portrait series created by oncological ophthalmologist and photographer Marina Marinkovic. Marina frequently performs surgeries in which she removes a diseased eye.

For this portrait series, Marina visited individuals who had lost an eye and wear a prosthesis, capturing them in their own environments.

Since 2006, Marina Marinkovic has been performing enucleations: surgeries in which an eye is removed. Through her interactions with patients after such procedures, Marina has often been struck by their resilience. During follow-up appointments, she observes how strong and optimistic these individuals are, but the brief nature of the consultations, as well as the dynamic between doctor and patient, limits the depth of their conversations. In this portrait series, the roles are reversed: Marina visited the patients in their homes.

This portrait series was created to enhance the self-confidence and self-worth of this patient group. It is important to engage in conversations about the possibilities when you have or are getting an eye prosthesis. In collaboration with the OOG in OOG association and muZIEum, this portrait series has become a reality.

‘Oog in Oog’ will be on display at muSEEum from Thursday, June 13, 2024, to Sunday, November 3, 2024.
