Photo series the CONTACT

George Kabel, who became blind at the age of 30 due to Usher syndrome, explores in the photo series 'the CONTACT', created with photographer dré didderiëns, the changes in non-verbal communication on the street and the impact it has on his perception and the world around him after losing his sight.

George Kabel became blind around the age of 30 due to Usher syndrome. For a long time, he wondered what non-verbal contact with passersby would look like. When you can see, this contact is often characterized by eye contact with others. Since George became blind, not only his sight but also his experience on the streets has changed.

For the photo series "the CONTACT," Kabel collaborated with photographer Dré Didderiëns. The photos in this series poignantly illustrate how not only Kabel but also the world and the people around him change when you can no longer (fully) see.
