We strive to provide an unforgettable and safe experience for all our visitors. While we aim to make our expeditions accessible to everyone, there may be some limitations.
Are you hearing impaired, pregnant, have limited mobility, or are claustrophobic? Do you use a wheelchair, walker, or other mobility aids? Do you have special requests or require extra support? Please contact us via reserveringen@muzieum.nl or call 024 - 200 10 50 instead of booking online. We would be happy to discuss the possibilities with you.
Are you less mobile?
It is possible to visit our building with a wheelchair or walker. Unfortunately, not all expeditions are accessible for wheelchair and walker users.
At muZIEum, we allow you to experience what it’s like to be blind or visually impaired. This is done through special rooms where you cannot see anything. During the experience, you walk through different rooms for a long period and there is no possibility to sit.
In onze Tour in abosulte darkness it is not possible to bring a wheelchair, walker, or other mobility aid, as it is important to keep your hands free. For example, you will need your hands to hold the tactile stick and feel around you.
Expeditie ribbelroute: through the city centre of Nijmegen is accessible for wheelchair users, but only if a companion comes along. The companion does not participate in the expedition and will be responsible for pushing the wheelchair.
Are you hearing impaired of deaf?
In our expeditions, your dominant sense, sight, disappears. Therefore, it is important that you can clearly hear the guide and other visitors in the unfamiliar, completely dark space. If you are hearing impaired, the accessibility of the expeditions will depend on your personal situation.
Are you visually impaired or blind?
Of course! Feel free to bring your own tactile stick; it will feel familiar and comfortable.
Note: If you have a guide dog, it cannot accompany you during the expedition. We have a safe kennel where the dog can wait until you return.
Are you pregnant?
First of all, congratulations! If you are early in your pregnancy, you can participate after signing a waiver. However, if you are in the later stages of your pregnancy, we advise against participating in an expedition.
Due to the unfamiliar space and lack of sight, there is a risk of accidentally bumping into something. Therefore, we recommend not participating in the later stages of pregnancy. If you are in an earlier stage, you can still join, but it is important that you know what to expect. We will ask you to review and sign a short waiver upon entry.
Do you suffer from claustrophobia or epilepsy?
During 'Tour in absolute darkness', the darkness may cause discomfort for people with claustrophobia or epilepsy.
'Expeditie Ribbelroute: through the city centre of Nijmegen' takes place outdoors. During this expedition, you wear an augmented reality (AR) headset that simulates various eye conditions. Claustrophobia or epilepsy may also play a role here.
If you choose to participate in an expedition, know that you can stop at any time.
We kindly ask that you notify us at the reception desk before the expedition if you have claustrophobia or epilepsy, so that we are aware of your condition.
