About muSEEum

We are a museum with impact, where you experience what it’s like to be blind or visually impaired. Personal encounters are always our main focus: a job for some, an experience for others. In absolute darkness, you place your trust in your expert guide and discover what is possible when you can't see.

Our mission

The muSEEum opens your eyes. We are an experience museum where seeing and not seeing come together. We offer a meaningful experience for one and create a job for another.

Through our exhibition and activity program, we offer visitors a practical perspective, enabling them to actively contribute to a society where everyone is included. At the same time, we offer employment opportunities for blind and visually impaired people.

Our vision

Moving forward to a visibly better world, together. We believe that an inclusive society becomes a reality faster when more people recognize the possibilities. The muSEEum is a source of inspiration in the Netherlands for cultural participation and inclusion.

About us

Our country has a diverse cultural landscape that increasingly encourages reflection on our role in society. As a result, museums are shifting their focus from only observing to learning, experiencing, and showcasing different perspectives. The visitor's role is changing from observer to participant. This changing vision of culture aligns seamlessly with what we offer.

The muSEEum is among the top three museums in Nijmegen and is one of the region’s biggest crowd magnet. Over the past twelve years, muSEEum has grown into the ultimate place where seeing and not seeing come together. With over 55 blind and visually impaired employees, our visitors experience what it is like to see little or nothing at all. We open our visitors’ eyes by closing them for a moment.

With our collection presentation and interactive exhibition, our changing exhibitions, and our various tours, we offer an inspiring insight into a world full of obstacles and surprising solutions, encourage a shift in thinking and provide practical perspectives on how you can contribute to an accessible world for blind and visually impaired people. We are convinced that an inclusive society will become a reality more quickly when more people recognize the possibilities.

A brief overview of our tours

Close your eyes and a world will open up for you. With us, everything is about what you can't see. With us, everything is about what you can't see. About the pitch-black darkness with all its colors, scents, and sounds. About the textured surfaces of this planet.

Make your way through the unknown and experience what being blind or visually impaired does to you.

Social return

An inclusive society is what we stand for. We achieve this by offering meaningful experiences to visitors and creating jobs for blind and visually impaired people.

As the go-to place for social procurement, we offer various opportunities to fulfill your social obligations. Curious about how we do this and how you can get involved? Visit the 'Social Return' page and discover how you can make a difference.

Cultural ANBI

The muZIEum is registered with the Belastingdienst as Algemeen Nut Beogende Instelling (ANBI). As a result, we do not have to pay inheritance or gift taxes on inheritances and donations. Every euro of your contribution fully supports our mission. Additionally, donating to an organization with an ANBI status provides tax benefits.

Our partners

Thanks to the contribution of our partners, we are able to develop new activities and programs.
